Our Objectives

OUR OBJECTIVES

To raise awareness in our community and beyond of issues affecting life in the sea and its sustainable use.

To preserve and enhance the outstanding natural diversity in the area of the Sound of Jura and Loch Sween area, and of Scotland’s seas more widely, while promoting sustainable local economies.

To seek closer engagement with individuals and organisations whose actions impact on our marine environment and to represent our communities opinions on this.

To educate future generations on the need for marine conservation and the importance of sustainable fishing.

To educate future generations on the need for marine conservation and the importance of sustainable fishing.

To campaign more widely for marine conservation and the sustainable use of the sea we all share.

Providing benefit to the public

The Friends of the Sound of Jura exists to serve its community, by encouraging marine conservation..

On behalf of the community, we will gather information on threats to our marine environment, assessing them rigorously and sharing this information with our supporters. We will invite regular discussion in order that we can fairly represent the best interests of the community. Such benefits may be tangible increases in sustainable jobs, such as sea angling charters, sea kayak guiding, ecotourism and associated jobs in the hospitality sector.

In order to achieve better marine conservation, we engage with and lobby policy-makers and decision-makers. This may be about specific issues of local concern,  or national policies that have local repercussions.
